Finding The Desire To Change

My day did not start off like I wanted it to. Instead of getting up when my alarm sounded, I turned it off and went back to sleep. I hate when I do that. It gets my whole day off track. Now my day is several hours off schedule, and I feel guilty.

While I could wallow in the guilt all day and allow it to ruin the rest of my day, I choose to start from where I am right now. I don’t have to wait until tomorrow to get back on track. I can get focused on what needs to be done and then get to work. While my sleeping in might not seem like a big deal, for me it is. I have worked so hard to break this habit, and I don’t want to fall back into my old ways.

We are all going to make decisions that are not in our best interest from time to time. We can beat ourselves up about it or give ourselves some grace. God forgives us when we mess up and we need to learn to forgive ourselves as well. After all, I’m striving for progress in my life, not perfection.

So today I am going to try to figure out why this happened. What am I trying to avoid? Why don’t I want to get up early and get started on my day? Before I go to bed tonight, I am going to schedule my day for tomorrow and set my intentions. In our sleepy state we can be so convincing. That’s why I need to get out of bed before I can convince myself otherwise.

Trying to do better and change our lives for the better is hard. It takes determination and discipline and a strong why. We have to constantly watch and pray. The enemy is always trying to defeat us. When we notice unhealthy habits and patterns then we need to change them immediately. The longer we allow it to happen, the easier it will become. If we are not careful, our good habit will be replaced with a bad one.

God always gives us an opportunity to change our course. Just because we are not where we want to be right now, doesn’t mean that we can’t get there. All it takes is one positive thought, one positive action, and one positive reason why we want to change. When the desire to change becomes greater than the desire to stay the same, then we can make it happen.

We can do this!

Love and blessings,
