One of the greatest lessons I have learned is that my life is not just about me. If I focus only on myself, and the things that I want, then I stand in my way of truly serving God. In order to serve Him and be fruitful on my journey, I have to be willing to put my own thoughts and feelings aside and do what is right—instead of what is comfortable.
Serving the Lord doesn’t always make me happy at the moment. Sometimes it is hard. Sometimes it scares me. Sometimes it is really uncomfortable and breaks my heart. There are times when I feel like I’m crawling on my belly through the trenches with Him. Times when I want to give up. And times when I wouldn’t want to do anything else.
If I just searched for happiness in my life, then I would miss so much. Life is a beautiful mix of it all. We need the sadness, heartache, fear, struggles, uncertainty, joy, love, accomplishment, overcoming, etc. It all works together for our good.
It is a beautiful gift when God allows us to help someone else. When we can take someone into our heart and truly pray for them, and walk with them through their hardships. That’s when we really make a difference in the world. If we only do the things that we want to do, when we want to do them, then we deny ourselves the ability to help someone else.
Accept the challenge and be willing to work. When we show up, and ask God what we can do for Him, then He will bless us with the gift of serving. Working for the Lord is best work that we can ever do. He is a wonderful Paymaster!
